CASW’s SONYC program at MS37 follows the STEM model for science and technology curriculum under our COMPASS program but at a more advanced level. Participants at MS37 can expect a robust experience geared towards advanced robotics coding, 3D printing strategies, and learn to create their own publications highlighting their school, the arts, and modern media. Following the SONYC model, the program consists of “clubs” that interest participants directly, ensuring their voices are heard in the creation of all programming on site. The COMPASS youth are looked at as leaders in the community, and that attitude is reflective of the massive participation of middle schoolers in the program. We preach a “you get what you put in” model, and the graduating youth who return to work as SYEP participants in highschool reflects just that.
